The Rwanda Police has recruited 635 new officers who have been awarded the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP), after completing the training of young officers at the Police Academy located in Gishari in Rwamagana District.
It was a ceremony attended by officials including the Minister of Defense, Juvenal Marizamunda, the Commander-in-Chief of the Rwandan Armed Forces, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, the Chief of Police of Rwanda, IGP Felix Namuhoranye, the Director-General of the National Service in charge of Security and Investigation, NISS, Aimable Havugiyaremye, Minister of Justice, Dr. Master Emmanuel, leaders in various security and national agencies and parents came to support their children.
The Prime Minister, Dr. Edouard Ngirente, who gave the speech to the graduates of the workshop.
He also rewarded three police officers who succeeded others while they were already trained, namely Manzi Eric who was the third, Dr. I call you Felix the second and the first, I call you Frederick.
Dr. Ngirente said that security is the basis of the development of Rwandans and that the Police, in cooperation with Rwandans and other security agencies, fulfills its responsibilities well.
He said, “The development and security we have, we have the responsibility to protect them, security is the basis of the development of Rwandans. The Rwandan police in cooperation with the people have been able to fulfill their duties well, which has made Rwandans and their friends continue to trust them.”
He pointed out that although there is security in Rwanda, in the world in general there are acts that threaten security and therefore the Rwandan Police must always be ready to manage it.
These include cross-border crimes, drug trafficking crimes and other technology-related crimes and the Rwandan Police is required to be adequately prepared to deal with them.
He said, “The police must also strive to work with the public where necessary to initiate timely information related to crimes that may be revealed. It is also recommended to participate in other non-security activities such as handing over development activities to the people.
He pointed out that the Government of Rwanda will continue to support the capacity of the National Police in terms of equipment, infrastructure, staffing and other skills needed to maintain security.
He asked the graduates to be characterized by their values and follow in the footsteps of their seniors who have completed the training before they are going to find themselves in the role.
He also asked them not to waste the opportunity they have been given to serve the country and always remember the oath they took.
He praised the families of the students who have completed the training for having played a role in raising them well and they have reached the level of serving the country.
Usually those who have completed this training have the knowledge, skills and values that allow them to do police work in Rwanda and abroad.
It is a training attended by young men and police officers who have left the Rwandan Police and those who have left normal civilian life, but all of them have graduated from the second level of university.
It is a 12-month training course in which they are trained to be leaders, to do many things in a short time, to use guns and other tools used by the Police in their daily work and to be taught values and etiquette.
The graduates included 527 men and 108 women.
Among them are those in the Police and those working in other agencies including the National Bureau of Governance, RIB, the National Security and Intelligence Service (NISS) and those in the Rwanda Correctional Service, RCS.
Although the world is threatened by problems such as insecurity, war, etc., its inhabitants need to live in freedom from insecurity and its associated risks.
During this training period, they have been in training for four weeks, and they also worked during the elections of the President and Deputies held in July 2024 and it gave them higher knowledge.
The director of the Gishari Police Academy, CP Robert Niyonshuti, revealed that among the graduates were two Rwandan students who studied at the Singapore Police Academy’s Home Team Academy.
He pointed out that the training started on September 19, 2023, started with 641 students but six of them could not finish due to various reasons including illness and others that prevented them from attending classes.
He confirmed that the time they have received the course has given them the knowledge that will help them fulfill their responsibilities as a police officer.
He asked them to be honest and professional as they were trained.
