Tanzania has celebrated its 63rd year of independence since 1961, after being colonized by Britain.
It is planned that the event will take place in the main stadium of Dar es Salaam, where there will be concerts and others.
In the message given by the President of this country today, she asked the people to show respect, work together, unity and peace.
She said: “All of us have a happy 63 year independence anniversary. Please allow me to use this opportunity to thank God for the progress he has brought to our country. Let us be proud of it, and continue to work together to protect the country, strive for peace, unity and work together as one. among our pillars.”
The first president of Tanzania, former Tanganyika, was Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, who played a significant role in the country’s recovery from the hands of the British.
When Tanzania was recognized as an independent government in 1961, Nyerere became the Prime Minister under the leadership of British Governor Sir Richard Turnbull, where Tanzania became a Republic in 1962, and served as the Head of State until 1985.
Julius Kambarage Nyerere, was the son of a ruler of the Zanaki tribe, born to the fifth wife out of 22 wives of his father Nyerere Burito.
It was while he was a student at Makerere University in Uganda that he started writing in newspapers expressing his anti-colonial views in 1943.
After finishing school as a young man, he came home and started teaching at home, only to be expelled from school for expressing anti-colonial views and being a teacher, this made him even better.
He got an opportunity to study in England and he returned to find a wife in 1953, he went to teach in Dar es Salaam but continued his independence policy which led him to the position of prime minister, and the independence of Tanganyika in 1961.
He became the first President of the Independent Republic of Tanganyika, his ideas were based on seeking African unity from the East African unity.
The idea he presented to Jomo Kenyatta and Milton Obote of Uganda was not achieved, and he said that it was one of the things that saddened him the most, although in 1967 he came to establish the East African Community for cooperation between these three countries.
In 1964, he united Tanganyika and Zanzibar to become Tanzania’s two governing bodies.
He promoted education and agriculture in the country despite the economic recession of the 1970s and 1980s.
He has been criticized for imprisoning people without trial and for not tolerating those who disagreed with his plans, although he gave the people the freedom to say what they want about government policies in the press and in parliament.
He was a man who was known to be very good at debate and presentation, known as a very humble person who lived a modest life and was president. He ordered that his children attend public schools and be treated like everyone else.
In 1985 he chose Ali Hassan Mwinyi who was the vice president to replace him in power, this happened peacefully. He continued to lead the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party until 1990.
He left the legacy of being the mother of the nation, and was given the honorific name of Mwalimu.
He had the distinction of making Tanzania the country in the region that has lasting peace after gaining independence.
He once said that he never understood how the people in Rwanda speak the same language, have the same culture, but some kill others because they are different from each other.
He died on 14/10/1999 of illness. Africans and Tanzanians in particular will continue to remember his legacy.
