The Director General of the Department of Innovation and Technology in the Ministry of Technology and Innovation, Kunda Esther, announced that the country has made a significant step forward, where most services are now provided through technology.
It was reiterated when December 12, 2024 launched the week dedicated to the promotion of technology, with the theme “Partnership in building a sustainable economy based on technology.”
It was revealed that in the National Development Acceleration Program (NST2), the country will develop various entrepreneurs in the field of Technology, especially the youth.
It is at a time when more than 680 thousand services are provided with the help of technology and it has had a positive impact on the direction of the country’s economic development.
The Director General of Rwanda ICT Chamber, Alex Ntale says that the series of technology would bring more results and strengthen the approach to customers around the world and expand the economy.
He said, “In order to further improve the services of the private sector, we will find them more where they are and train them on how technology will bring positive changes in their lives.”
He said that in this annual week dedicated to the promotion of technology, there will be a campaign on the use and production of technology in order to speed up development for all in Rwanda.
The Director of Innovation and Technology at MINICT, Kunda Esther, emphasized that there are opportunities in NST2 for various entrepreneurs in the field of Technology.
He said, “NST2 includes different opportunities which include the fact that at least 56% are people of working age ie from 16-64 and 65.3% of Rwandans are under 30 years old.”
The NST2 economic program, aims to help the country achieve the goals of sustainable development and the 2050 vision of being a rich country and a country with a medium economy in 2035.
In order to achieve these goals, it is expected that the number of people with basic knowledge in the use of technology will increase. It will go from 53% to 100%.
The number of smart devices related to the capabilities of Rwandans will be increased.
This will be done in order for everyone to use the latest technology.
A digital identity will be issued (Single Digital ID) that will simplify and speed up the way Rwandans access government services.
Efforts will continue to be made in the use of modern technology, including artificial intelligence, in order to speed up and improve performance in various sectors. Some examples are education, health, agriculture, industry and justice.
In order to increase the knowledge of young people and give them the opportunity to find jobs in the future, one million people will be given knowledge related to technology (coding).
Another 500,000 will receive advanced technology training.
