Israel has announced that it has closed its embassy in Ireland, because this European country has crossed the red line, even accusing Tel Aviv of committing genocide in Gaza.
Israel shows that Ireland has continued to make tough decisions and create policies that threaten this country in the Middle East, which is why it decided to close its embassy.
On December 15, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Gideon Saar, announced that the various actions based on anti-Israelism being carried out by Ireland are an attempt to discredit Israel as a country and show it in a negative light.
He said that Israel continues to be deliberately wronged compared to other countries, so there is no reason to continue opening its embassy in the Northwestern European country.
He said, “Ireland has crossed a red line in its relationship with Israel. We will continue to do our best to develop our relations with other countries based on the interests of both sides and how these countries treat Israel.”
It is at a time when the Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris, said that he was very disappointed by Israel’s decision, and denied that his country is always against Israel.
He said, “It is important that the embassies and others that enable cooperation and interaction between the two countries continue to work, and remain open even if there are disagreements. Discussions and continued cooperation allow the people to understand the views of each side even if the two sides do not completely agree on a certain topic. “Ireland always seeks peace, respects human rights and upholds international law.”
Ireland has frequently called for an end to the war in Gaza, and in May 2024 openly supported Palestine becoming a fully independent state.
Ireland also supported South Africa’s claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), led by Cyril Ramaphosa, that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
