The National Human Rights Commission calls on industrialists, miners and quarries, to do business in a way that respects the rights of people granted by law.
They announced it in a 2-day workshop that brought together the National Human Rights Commission, industrialists, mining companies and transport companies in Rwanda.
The workshop was held in Nyanza District in the Southern Province.
The Vice President of the National Commission for Human Rights SINYIGAYA Silas says that those who work in the industry, companies in charge of mining and quarrying, companies in charge of air and ground transportation and many employers should know that a person is noble, he is a coward and therefore he should be valued more than money and other things that people often value more.
He said: ‘There are principles and laws that I am talking about about human rights that those who are going to start industries and companies should take care of and make them theirs’
Sinyigaya adds that where these industries and companies are located, they must take care of the environment and benefit the residents by changing their lives.
The manager of Big Mining Company in Ruhango District, Hubakimana Thomas says that his company started in 2015, when the National Institute of Mines, Gas and Oil (RBM) asked him to do mining that does not harm the environment.
He said: ‘Of the 500 workers I have, they have employment contracts and we pay them on time.’
He says that even in the time of COVID 19 that shook the world in 2020, their families are not working to comply with the law that gives them the right to live.
Cyakora says that when they start working in that profession, they become successful, and they will have the opportunity that the country provides them with qualified workers who will help them to work professionally.
In addition, we adhere to the provisions of the law for all insured workers.
The Executive Secretary of the Southern Province, Nshimiyimana Védaste, told the media that there is no problem for the employers and workers, because the country has finally put in place the laws and regulations that govern the workers and the Fire in general, taking care of their rights.
He said: ‘Employee must work in a good place to provide productivity and benefit companies, industries and employers’.
Only some of those who followed the training said that they did not know the laws regarding Human Rights, and said that they are determined to implement them.
In mining and quarrying areas, there are frequent incidents of minor accidents involving miners.
