Everton has been bought by new wealthy owners. Recently, an American company called Friedkin Group has purchased the Everton team, acquiring it from a British-Irish investor named Ardavan Farhad Moshiri, who had owned it since 2016.
The deal is said to be worth more than £400 million, and Everton becomes the 10th Premier League team to be owned by American owners.
The American company had signed a deal with the billionaire Moshiri on September 23, but they are waiting for approval from the Premier League, which has the final say on the deal and has now given its blessing.
The company that bought Everton is headquartered in Texas, United States, and is led by financier Dan Friedkin, who also owns Italian Serie A club AS Roma.
Friedkin, who alone runs the company, has a net worth of $6.16 million, according to Forbes magazine in 2023.
The Daily Express newspaper in the UK where we found this news, confirms that Friedkin has been appointed chairman of Everton’s board, while Marc Watts, who was already in this position, has been appointed to manage the club’s day-to-day operations as [Club Senior Manager].
Friedkin, in an open letter after posting it on his former Twitter account, X, said: “I am delighted to welcome one of the greatest English football clubs in our history to the world as Friedkin Group Ltd. This is a triumph for the Friedkin Group as a company, and Everton represents our heritage and pride.”
Moshiri, who is a British businessman with Iranian roots as his father came to the UK from Iran, also known as Moshiri Ahamed, first bought a 49.9% stake in Everton in 2016, before buying another 94.1% stake in 2022.
On Sunday at 10:00 GMT, Sean Dyche’s Everton will host second-placed Chelsea, managed by Italian Enzo Maresca, at their Goodison Park stadium, and representatives from Friedkin’s team are expected to be at the game to witness the results of their investment.
