Health authorities in the city of Lubumbashi announced that they have counted more than ten people who died from the more than five hundred people bitten by dogs since the beginning of this year until December 24.
This is contained in a comprehensive report released on Friday, December 27 by the Katanga Provincial Health Department through a consultation organized by the University of Lubumbashi in collaboration with the Haut-Katanga Provincial Executive Committee.
Dr. Marc Ngoy, an analyst and head of the provincial health department, for his part, confirms that the current situation remains worrying and requires urgent measures to protect the health of the population.
He said: “From January to today, we have at least 476 people bitten by dogs. It has even been confirmed that there are some who have rabies and some who have died.””
This is actually a serious public health issue because there are many stray dogs and another concern is that only a handful of people come to our services but others do not report it.
We do not know how we will control it,” Dr. Marc Ngoy explained to Yabiso News. For him, he also confirms that the communes of Lubumbashi and Kampemba were the most affected.
He added: “We discussed animal health and the impact on animals that can also affect humans. That is why we continue to insist on developing a dog vaccination program.”
Secondly, if possible, the government should issue a permit and all stray dogs should be killed, which would be a solution to reduce this problem that currently plagues this province.”
Dog is very dangerous because when it bit you it releases poison which can affects your mental health functioning and can course mental disorder .
Health professionals and other health care providers advise peaple when they bitten by dog immediately to go to health services which is near or around them for immediate support.
