The workers who work in different areas where Amazon has stores, have organized a major strike in this holiday period just before Christmas, which could cause losses for this company because these days are the days when it sells a lot of things.

The strike was organized by the workers after the leadership of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters: IBT announced that the company founded by the financier Jeff Bezos refused to negotiate with its workers about improving the contract. ‘jobs, providing good wages and improving the way they work.

IBT announced that Amazon workers in cities such as New York, Skokie, Illinois, Atlanta, San Francisco and Southern California are preparing to go on strike.

The union says it will represent 10,000 workers, some of whom are considered to be casual workers, from various Amazon stores in the United States and others with valid labor contracts who will participate in the strike.

However, these are allegations that Amazon denies, and its spokesperson, Kelly Nantel, called it a smear campaign, which he called inappropriate.

He said, “The truth is that IBT is using non-transparent methods. The union continued to mislead and intimidate Amazon workers into conciliation.”

The IBT has given Amazon December 22, 2024 as the deadline to start talks on improving the labor contract, or if the strike starts.

Labor compliance experts say it’s more likely Amazon won’t negotiate with IBT, and they worry it will spark a stir from other labor groups.

This company, which is considered an internet market, has often shown that it prioritizes building relationships with individual employees, rather than working in forums, something that employees do not understand.

Amazon is the second largest private employer in the world, it pays higher wages than other companies in the same industry, and it has recently introduced technology to reduce repetitive tasks that burdened workers.
