The Confederation of African Football [CAF] has confirmed that Tanzania has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after Guinea lost a complaint against it for fielding a player with the wrong number on the match sheet.
The Tanzania national team, commonly known as Taifa Stars, was accused by Guinea of fielding a player with a different number than the one on the match sheet, a practice punishable by the laws of the game in CAF competitions.
In the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, where the country defeated Guinea and Tanzania was immediately confirmed as the winner, following the Democratic Republic of Congo, who were leading Group H, it was revealed that in the 76th minute, Tanzania’s number 26 Ibrahim Ame came on as a substitute for captain Mbwana Ally Samatta.
In a complaint filed by the Guinean national team with CAF, it is stated that Ibrahim Ame, who wore the number 26 on his back, does not appear anywhere on the match sheets.
Further more, Guinea also accuses the Tanzanian football authorities of deliberately changing the match time from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., something that the Guineans say has had a negative impact on their players who are accustomed to the European climate.
The third complaint Guinea is making concerns the match commissioners, accusing CAF of being from Kenya, a fact they link to the fact that Kenya is located in the same region as Tanzania, even though CAF has already discredited them.
