.The captain of the Rwandan national team, Amavubi, Muhire Kevin has assured Rwandans that they will defeat the South Sudanese national team in Kigali in the play-off match of the final qualifiers to qualify for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Yesterday evening, the Amavubi returned to Rwanda after losing 3-2 to South Sudan in the first leg of the final qualifiers for the 2024 CHAN to be held in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
After arriving at Kanombe airport, Muhire Kevin said that the team never outplayed them, but rather it was their own mistakes that cost them, and assured Rwandans that they would win in Kigali.
He said, “First of all, I thank God that we were able to return home in peace, even though we went to Juba but we did not get what we wanted because we prepared for the game when we arrived at the stadium.”I would say that even though we didn’t get the points we wanted to win, the team didn’t outshine us, the mistakes we made hurt us.
The team isn’t strong, but I assure Rwandans that we will beat them in Kigali.”He said that arriving at the airport and being welcomed by fans is precious.
He said: “It is truly precious because a fan or lover of the country must be with the team in good times and bad because in football there are 3 things, draw, win and lose.”So the fact that we lost is not a good thing for us, but we assure you that we will give you joy in the game at the weekend.”
The CHAN Lions captain said that in the play-offs they will avoid making the same mistakes again.
He said: “What I would say is to avoid making mistakes again because when you make a mistake in a competition like this, the team corrects you, so we are going to train in the few days left to correct our mistakes and behave well in front of goal so that we can capitalize on the opportunities we get because we had many chances but didn’t capitalize on them.”
“As senior players, we are going to sit down, talk and practice so that in the next game we can correct what we didn’t do well.”Kevin said that if they did not go to CHAN, they would have lost something for themselves as players and the country as a whole.
He said: “It is possible because it allows players to go out, to be seen playing within the country.
I would say that for me it would be a reward for us and the country in general.”
Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, will host South Sudan in the play-off match of the final qualifiers for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Saturday at Stade Amahoro.
