While the second phase of the renovation of Musanze City continues to be implemented, old buildings and houses are replaced with new ones, the people of Musanze District say that this continues to increase their confidence and opportunities to create new jobs, they plan to work and develop themselves further.

In Musanze District, construction continues as part of the renovation of the City, New apartment buildings continue to be built to replace homes that were built over 60 years ago, and are clearly out of step with the trend.

Tugenwenayo Théonas, head of the Musanze City Renewal Committee, comparing now and before the year 2016, the renovation project has not yet been implemented, he testifies that a lot has changed.

He said, “Some people said that this town of Musanze cannot be built with attached houses, pretending that all the land you have built on is above the water. That often delayed the renovation of the buildings and it is shown by the way in the early years of 1994, there were only two attached buildings, including the Ruhengeri General Hospital and the building where the Musanze District is working now.

He added, “That allowed even those who were thinking of having real investment activities to do there, rarely did it because the City was at a low level, without buildings suitable for those activities. Those who tried to renovate, were only painting, changing the ceilings, but the expansion of the working area was not taken into account.

At the beginning, as soon as the Musanze District was made one of the supporting districts of the City of Kigali, it acted as a stimulus for investment in the renovation of the City, and in the year 2016, it started with the first phase, which started with the upgrading of buildings in 45 areas, working on the road Kigali-Musanze and the part of the road connected to it, going to the food market of Musanze, most people know as Kariyeri, that whole part.

Tugengwenayo says that the current status of the City of Musanze is satisfactory among them, 22 buildings have been completed, while another 13 are still under construction, which is similar to the other 29 buildings that are planned to be built in the second phase of the renovation of this city, which is also currently under construction.

Dukuzumuremyi Claver says: “This city has not yet renovated the existing houses that were ugly, small and old, and now they are being replaced by others that add more value and give it a better look. I think that now there are many people who take it as an example, especially those who visit Rwanda and see it as developed. If this is not done we will not call the City, it will be something else. We always thank President Paul Kagame for the way he thinks about us and brings us to such good things”.

The Musanze Big Market building known as Goico is one of the construction sites in the first phase of Musanze city renewal.

In the 29 plots planned for construction in this second phase, in the five phases this City will be built in, 9 plots have already been completed, while the remaining 20 include those that are still under construction and those that have not yet been completed.

In the buildings that have already been completed and those that are under construction, at least each one reaches the level of starting work and provides new jobs for more than 200 people.

The Musanze District Youth Center was built in the central city of Musanze

This is said to have a practical meaning in reducing the unemployment that is looming large among the youth.
