Football fans, when there is a big game they like to say “This is the game of death”. But even though they say it like that, this game actually happened.

The story of the so-called game of death begins with the second world war that took place in the year 1939-1945, when Germany started the war in Europe.

In the year 1941, Germany planned an attack on the Soviet Union, and in a few days they captured the city of Kyiv in Ukraine, which was the part of the Soviet Union.

Here in Ukraine, in the city of Kyiv, there was a so-called game of death.

When the Germans arrived in this city, they took away all entertainment including football matches and destroyed all the teams that were there.

In particular, the reason why football teams were disbanded was that some of the strongest teams, such as Dynamo Kyiv and Lokomotiv Kyiv, had players who were Soviet soldiers and spies, and who had communist principles.

How did the game of death come about? After the entertainment was stopped, the people became very isolated and some died of hunger because they were dependent on the games. This led to the revival of football games.

Although the games were resumed, a league had to be played that would be between the countries that the Germans had occupied, and play with their soldiers.

Due to the fact that the clubs in Ukraine were destroyed, new ones were formed. Pro-German journalist Georgi Dmitrievich Shvetsov founded a club called Rukh, which was never popular because he was considered a traitor.

On the other hand, another man, Joseph Kordik, founded another team called FC Start, which he later destroyed. This man traveled all over the country looking for former great players, joining them in his team.

It was known that there was another German Luftwaffe fighter team called “Flakelf”.

As the game of death began

As soon as these teams were formed, the FC Start team dominated them slowly.

The death match began on August 9, 1942, when the team defeated the Luftwaffe team known as “Flakelf” 5-1.

At the end of this game, the Germans, who did not understand how they lost to the Ukrainians, immediately demanded that the game be replayed.

Four days later, this match was repeated because the Germans did not believe that they had been defeated, but FC Start beat Flakelf again 5-3.

This time the Germans killed them very much but they continue to learn about this team and the players who beat them and what they can do for them.

A few days later, FC Start played another match against Rukh, which was founded by Georgi Dmitrievich Shvetsov, who was a supporter of the Germans, and they beat them 8-0.
