President Joe Biden arrived in Angola on his first visit. She may have her next post in sub-Saharan Africa as president.
On this day, December 3, 2024, the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has already arrived in Angola, in an important historical visit in the relations between his country and Africa.
Biden arrived in Angola in the wee hours of Monday night, after passing through Cape Verde, where his plane, Air Force One, landed briefly.
Here he met with the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who thanked the island country for its support to Ukraine in the war with Russia. Later, he headed to Luanda in Angola, where he was awaited and received by officials, including the United States ambassador to Angola.
Biden’s trip to Angola aims to engage in a variety of activities, including a visit to the historic center of slavery, as well as a number of military and business activities.
This trip would be Biden’s first trip to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office and possibly his last trip to the continent before being succeeded by Donald Trump in January 2025.
It is also planned that on Wednesday, Biden will visit the new railroad in the south of the country, which cost 1 billion dollars.
Biden’s trip to Africa aims to strengthen US relations with African countries, especially as Africa continues to face security challenges, including the impact of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s crisis in the region.
Great Lakes. Angola, the country Biden is visiting, has been assigned by the African Union (AU) to be a mediator in discussing security issues in the East of the DRC, as well as helping Rwanda and this country in finding a solution to these issues.
Biden’s visit in his last term in the White House, after he pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, who was indicted for crimes including tax evasion and illegal possession of weapons, shows that Africa remains a treasure trove of relations between America and many countries in Africa.
In particular, Biden continued to ensure that Africa will continue to be the home of cooperation between Europe, the United States, and other countries that are increasing in the pursuit of development and security on the continent.
These actions will increase the relationship between the United States and sub-Saharan Africa, as Biden assured that Africa will continue to face development challenges and build sustainable relations between the two sides.
